We started with our own bare-dirt backyard.
Sagebrush & Stone is a small design-and-build landscaping company in Lehi, founded by landscape designer Megan Tolman in 2019.
Our story
A plan, three phases, and a lot of knocking.
Megan Tolman spent years designing landscapes for a large commercial landscaping company: neighborhood entrances, parks, and common areas across Utah County.
Then she and her family bought a new home in Lehi, and the backyard was bare dirt. With a toddler, a tight budget, and a designer's eye, she planned the whole yard up front and built it in three phases over two summers.
Neighbors started knocking to ask who did it. In 2019, Megan started Sagebrush & Stone to do the same for other new-home families: one plan, built in phases, with every step explained.
The best backyards aren't built all at once. They're planned all at once.

The crew
Luis Ortega and the build team.
Luis leads every build, from the first stake in the ground to the last load of mulch. He's the one on site each day, making sure what gets built matches the plan you approved.
Our crew is small on purpose. You'll see the same faces from start to finish, and you'll always know who to ask.
How we work
Three promises, explained.

One plan, built in phases
Most families can't, or don't want to, do the whole yard at once. So we design everything first, then build in stages. Phase one usually covers grading, sprinklers, and a lawn. The patio, trees, and beds can follow when you're ready, without tearing anything out.

See it in 3D first
A flat drawing only tells you so much. Our 3D designs let you walk through the yard, see how the patio feels next to the house, and try different plants before a single shovel goes in the ground.

Water-wise by default
Utah summers are hot, water is precious, and our soil is mostly clay. We choose plants that thrive here, use drip lines in planting beds, and install smart controllers, so your yard looks great without wasting water.
