The brief
The Porch is a concept coffee house I created to show a different side of web design: a business that sells an atmosphere, not a service. It's a neighborhood hangout in a century-old house on Main Street in American Fork, run by a baker and a barista.
The site needed to feel as cozy as the shop itself, make the menu, hours, and directions effortless to find, and give neighbors a reason to come back, especially on Friday nights.
Key decisions
-
A day on the porch
The home page moves from soft morning cream to walnut and espresso as you scroll, ending under glowing string lights for Porch Nights. The design itself tells the story of a day at the shop.
-
Arches, texture, and handwriting
Arched photo frames like old-house windows, a subtle paper texture, hand-drawn icons, and handwritten notes from the owner make the site feel handmade and warm instead of plain.
-
Room for non-coffee drinkers
Plenty of Utah County locals don’t drink coffee, so hot chocolate, Italian sodas, and a dirty soda get equal billing with the espresso drinks.
-
Answers for someone on Main Street
A live “open now” sign, a hand-drawn map, and a Directions, Menu, and Call bar on phones answer the questions of someone deciding where to stop right now.
